It's been great to have an experienced teacher who used to be in the kinder room as a mentor. Lot's of useful strategies and advice come easily from the teacher and to some extent have made my beginning as an ECT easier. But I'm still trying to find my own way - after all we are different teachers and have different values even though most of our ideas about young children can be similar.
I tend to give the children a bit of time to solve their conflicts. However at a busy setting like ours, it seems easier to just step in when need to. By interferring straight away, it reduces the chances of children getting hurt, noises, violence...etc. I have to admit teacher's power makes things easier. Nontheless, I'm still wondering if I can give the children a bit of time to practice their skill of negotiation.
